THE TRUTH COMES OUT IN THE BREAKDOWNS( • M E M O R I E S M Y G O D T H E S E M E M O R I E S • )the crisp morning air stung her cheeks as artemis slowly made her way across central park, frost crunching underneath her boots as she trudged through the grass. her coffee cup warmed her hand and she took a small sip as she plopped down onto one of the many benches in the park. it had been a long night. artemis worked various part time jobs, but since she had no college degree to speak of they weren't very glamorous and she always seemed to get the bad hours. she had just gotten off work thirty minutes ago and had to go to another job in less than two hours. trying to sleep would be pointless, so she decided to get some caffeine in her system and sit out in the park for a while.
living in new york city was expensive, as she had come to find out, and she had been working over time just to scrape by. she was thinking of moving to another city soon, but she wasn't quite done with new york yet. her purpose in coming here was to discover more about the vampires. she needed to find the underground and was sure that one of the most populous and dangerous cities in the country just might have one. while vampires still weren't common knowledge, she had happened across people in her travels that have told some stories. but she hadn't seen for herself as she hadn't had time to go explore the various night clubs the blood suckers were sure to visit.
so lost in her train of thought, artemis nearly jumped when her phone started trilling. looking at her caller id, she rolled her eyes and muttered under he breath before answering. "i'm trying to sleep." as much as she would have loved to ignore the call, the last time she did that her mother called the police. dear jesus, she was annoying, as much as artemis loved her. "the furry problem is fine. i can't really talk right now."
[/b] her mom wanted to know if she was taking her wolfsbane, which she wasn't, but she wasn't about to tell her mother that. "look it up yourself mom. i really got to go. kisses. bye."[/b] she abruptly hung up as her mom spluttered on the other end. you would think the woman would be used to her only daughter being a werewolf by now, but she wasn't and constantly called to make sure she wasn't living out in the forest or something. her mom had quite the imagination. "how annoying..."[/b] she muttered underneath her breath as she took another sip of her coffee and desperately craved a cigarette. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] COUNTING BODIES LIKE SHEEP The Words: 562 The Outfit: hallo The Notes blaaah It was another cool morning in New York City. He was up before the first bit of light had even crested over the horizon, his green eyes stuck on the fading glimmer of distance stars. Stars never did last long in the light of the city, even when night had fallen. He grinned to himself as the blanket of the night lifted and the lights outside shut off. Sunshine was pouring through the morning mist and polluted air.
Roscoe DiMarco had not slept that night. He had managed to get his hand into a good deal of trouble already in this foreign city and the nighttime was crawling with just the kind of people (if you could call them that) that he was searching for! New York was plentiful in the creatures that he had been searching for. Of course, he wasn’t foolish enough to simply walk into one of the crowded clubs and start anything. Roscoe was careful in what he did, disinterested in giving himself away before knowing the new territory. There were many faces that had not yet come to know of him or his heritage, an obvious advantage in his future ploys and hopefully an invitation to furthering his reputation among his own kind. Perhaps it would promise him a better position among his little pack of wolves… He snarled at the thought of the headstrong and self proclaimed leader. Artemis Evans… that woman could really strike a nerve.
Still it was she that he sought out this morning. He would play his cards right for the time being but only for the sake of their cause. Unfortunately he and Artemis were not exactly on loving terns so the pair would not be strolling in the streets hand in hand or anything like that. He scoffed at the thought of holding any woman’s hand… however; the point was that he would have to stumble upon her by luck. He was aware that the woman worked several jobs and very well may have been at one at this very moment. It was a disheartening thought considering the city they were in and the amount of people. Maybe he should have considered getting the woman’s phone number one of these days. Even if he did enjoy the thrill of a good hunt he had to admit that searching for Artemis in this city would probably drive him up the wall mad.
It was by complete luck that he had heard the sound of a familiar voice. That was all that he needed to add an extra spring in his step and toss a crooked smile onto his cool lips. He had no idea who it was that she was talking to but the man was sure to trail close behind her, trying his best to walk without a sound. He slipped his hands into his coat pocket and tilted his chin up toward the sky while listening in as best he could to the conversation. Roscoe could only make out one side of it though. A slight smirk glided onto his lips when she gave her mother the swift farewell. Kisses. How amusing it was to hear her say such things.
“Tsk, how rude,” he finally commented, walking briskly to catch up to her. Once he did, he snapped his gaze over to her. “Rushing your mother off like that!” |
