i dare you to go in there. he said to the blond who stared at the building with wide blue eyes. she protested and stepped back, dropping her drink and lamenting over the loss of her alcohol more than she did over the dare itself. when the boy finally relented on torturing the model-built blond, his vaguely focused gaze flitted over to the smaller redhead, and he grinned. fine, sam will go. won't you sam? he jeered, and the redhead's green eyes flickered with excitement ... and something else. "of course." she lifted her chin and eyed up the building, knowing that hauntings were very impossible and that the most danger she would find in there would be creaky floorboards and dusty walls. her lips curled upward in her famous lopsided grin as she handed her bottle to the blond. "hold that." she said, and the four remaining friends fell silent, sobered up by their curiosity as the scene began unfolding in front of them. she could hear them muttering under their breath, their words floating past her ears and disappearing into the cool night air. she's got balls, that sam. if anyone was going, it'd be her. i hope nothing happens.
but sam walked forward confidently. she had a bottle of beer, having drank most of the one she handed to the blond girl. she was not drunk- no, but she was loosened up. she was ready to take on the world. of course, she would have been ready for that even without the st. paulies in her hand. samantha warrington was a wild one, no one could deny that. she had spunk, and she was crazy brave. or reckless, however you wanted to put it. quietly, her footsteps slowed as she approached the old wooden doors. looking over her shoulder, she peered back at her group of friends, standing yards away with owl-wide eyes and eager expressions. she shot them one last smirk, and then slipped through, disappearing into the shadows of the old hospital.
there was a whole different kind of darkness inside. the shadows seemed deeper, endless. light barely touched the floor, filtered by smog and scum covering the windows. when there was light, shadows moved over it as wind brushed the ivy clinging to the brick walls. but most unnerving of all was the deadly silence that gripped everything inside the hospital. it was the silence that grabbed her attention first, so when sam turned to leave once more, a bang from the next room over made her jump; her vivid green eyes darting to the source- seeing nothing but shadows. she used her ears to find her way into the next room, and when she did- she stopped dead in her tracks. there was something moving in the eerie shroud just ahead of her. her eyes widened, but she stayed glued to the spot- her slightly parted lips not uttering a sound.

The grey walls were also a tomb for many patients at the time. It reeked of death and mold. A surreal sort of odor, really. It crept into your nostrils, slipped into your eyes, and showed you just how toxic this place really was. It was detrimental to any one's health to step into the hospital. It was detrimental to any human's health to step into the hospital. But not because of the stench or the choking walls or the crumbling roof. No, it was because there was a vampire. One that was as torturous as she was clever.
Her hand brushed gingerly across the grey walls as she walked adjacent to them. Her fingertips danced ever so lightly against the brick, as if delighted by the coldness that matched her own. The chill of the stone was not nearly as cold as her skin, though. Icy like that of a deceased person. And her eyes were nearly as cold. They shone like dull diamonds through the darkness, but cut like flawless ones.
Nympha had been enjoying her time alone with the dusty, old hospital. It was exactly the sort of place that a vampire needed to be. Somewhere dark and shrouded in mystery, to keep the humans at bay. Because, who was honestly stupid enough to creep into someplace like the hospital? But, oh, she had spoken too soon.
The redhead's sensitive hearing piqued after hearing voices outside of the hospital. She quickly found a window, opened it, and peered out, spotting the humans almost immediately. Her lip curled, exposing her elongated fangs. Nympha let out a slight hiss as she watched the lanky girl walk toward the hospital entrance. Her eyes darted swiftly to the other humans, and as much as she was tempted to descend out of the window and attack them, her focus was more on the lone human straying into her territory.
Nympha closed the window with a slam and took off into the corridor. She stopped her breathing as she spotted the human almost immediately in front of her. She wasn't but perhaps twenty feet in front of her. Nympha retreated back into the room she had been in, and backed against the wall. The redhead was ready for her prey. And sure enough, the girl entered the room, but seemed to stop dead, as if she had seen a ghost. Nympha smiled ear-to-ear. What a perfect opportunity to strike. But she wanted to have some fun with the panicked human.
Nympha gripped the wall with her hands and placed one foot against the base of the stone. She got as close as she could to the brick, shrunk into it. Nympha ran her tongue over her fangs and then over her lips. She let the silence ring between them for a few moments before releasing a venomous hiss. A sound that was both terrifying and a caveat to the girl not to come any closer. In general, it was a warning not to move at all. Nympha didn't want to chase her down (though she would), but she didn't want her to retaliate either. Nympha just wanted to have some fun frightening the human.
The vampire emitted another hiss, mimicking a feral cat. Nympha slowly moved to the wall adjacent to the one she was crouched against. Her frame crept ever so lightly over to the human until finally she was within the girl's line of sight. Nympha agilely moved right in front of the human, only a few inches away, and then shoved her with all her might, all within the flick of an eye. Nympha gave a twisted smile as she backed into the room again, her face contorted with condemning laughter. This person had no clue what she had stumbled upon. And as long as the sun didn't come up, she wouldn't be getting out of the hospital. It was very rare that Nympha had prey to toy with. what they could do |

she watched hte figure slink back, moving silently and disappearing, before reappearing with alarming speed. it seemed to be taunting her, wanting her too feel chills run down her spine. her brows furrowed as she frowned. a shove and a rush of air made her stumble backward, tripping over her feet and falling, dust exploding into the air around her. sam watched this, looking around, behind, and then in front of her once more. she looked concerned, worried, but still recklessly fearless. hisses echoed in the air- and the redhead found herself coming to the conclusion that this was no ghost. it had substance. it was real. but who was it?
slowly, keeping her gaze trained on the shadow that the figure disappeared into, she got to her feet. once she stood, she didn't bother to dust herself off. lifting her chin, she stared down the shadows with a steady green gaze. "who's there?" she drawled, sidling forward inch by inch. her gaze flickered hastily, taking in all of her surroundings as swiftly as she could before focusing her gaze on the figure, becoming clearer as she got closer. she narrowed her eyes, pausing in motion. "i see you there." she said, her voice echoing off of the walls, splitting the eerie silence and hanging over her and whoever else was with her in that room.

It was brave. Or perhaps it was foolish. To get up and confront a vampire? An experienced one, at that. Call it what you want, but seeing as how the girl neither had fire nor a stake, she was pretty much putty in Nympha's hands.
Nympha backed as far as she could shape her body into the wall. Her body was rigid, ready to leap if the human got too close. She felt cornered, almost, though she readily knew that she could jump out the window or use her brute strength to remove the girl from the premises. She supposed the sheer gall that the human had was enough to make her feel cornered. Even without fire or a stake, Nympha wasn't oblivious to the fact that humans, as much as vampires, could be witty.
The vampire watched silently as the girl inched forward; she watched her with quiet repose. Nympha released a few noiseless hisses in warning. As the human was in range of finally seeing her, she bared her fangs in a feral manner. Her hands clenched against the wall, scraping it with her nails. And if her obvious discomfort wasn't apparent yet, Nympha backed up even further against the wall (if that was possible).
"Leave!" she growled under her breath. "Unless you want to become my next meal." The redhead kept her gaze hard on the girl before her. Nympha definitely meant business, and it should have been fairly apparent by her snarl and furrowed brows. And on occasion, she'd throw another hiss at the human.
With every second that passed, Nympha's will to pounce on the human grew stronger. Her body tensed like a spring, ready to leap. Of course, Nympha wanted to show the poor thing true fear before she did made her her next meal. It just wasn't any fun to have the prey resist. When they were terrified and curled into a fetal position, that was the best time to strike.
Eventually, the vampire began to unwind, showing her true colors now. She stood to full height, though still somewhat short. She gave the human a wicked sort of grin before touching the window pane behind her. "Don't you think you should be getting to your friends... before I do?" she challenged, lifting the glass slowly. Nympha's eyes glinted with mischief, a very powerful emotion in her, indeed. She always wanted to make a game out of things, and human lives were no different. The redhead bared her fangs again, this time in more of a toothy smile. "They won't even know what happened." what they could do |

but when the creature spoke, she involuntarily took another step backward, to the door, to her friends. meal? what was this bitch talking about? sam's everybrows snapped together and she put her hands in front of her, as if holding an invisible shield or something like that. it was a poor way to handle the situation, but pretending she had some form of defense was the only way sam knew how to handle it at all. but the girl was stepping forward, skulking, almost as if stalking her- preying on her. at the mention of sam's friends, though, her gaze darted back over her shoulder to the door. no. she thought, pressing her lips together. but she could get rid of this bitch before she even got to the door, she was sure. a human was a human, and this one was particularly small. not that sam was very tall herself.
her gaze snapped back to the girl and she narrowed her eyes, green depths flickering with momentary indesicion. and then- she parted her lips and spoke. "you won't touch them." she threatened right back because she knew she could play the game too. sam smirked, quirking a neatly trimmed brow and held her ground, her gaze glittering and her jaw set. if only this little herione knew. for all the bravery she thought she had- she only thought she was facing down a creep. a human. the reality of this world had yet to sink into her veins and heart, and sam's bravery was growing more and more foolish by the second. she would surely get herself killed one of these days.

She had this stupid sense that she could fend herself from Nympha. Did she not realize that Nympha wasn't... like her? Did the razor sharp fangs, the pale skin, or the hissing not throw her off? Were all humans this dumb?
Nympha liked the challenging tone the girl took with her. There was nothing wrong with a challenge. In fact, it made things interesting. A human threatening a vampire. What a crazy ultimatum.
The vampire flashed the girl opposite her a wicked grin. "I won't? Are you going to stop me?" she questioned, raising a brow. Nympha shook her head, as if in disbelief. She even stooped so low as to fake a gasp. "Come on. I'll give you a head start. Go on, start running." She waved her along with her hand, shooing her. "No?" Now she crossed her arms and heaved a devastated sigh. She shook her head once more.
Then the redhead peered out of the window again, taking a good long look at the girl's friends. What a nice, unwary snack. Nympha's head snapped around, looking at the human over her shoulder. Honestly, Nympha didn't care about the strong-willed human as much as she did the less expecting ones.
Nympha blinked her blue-green eyes at the human, staring blankly at her for a few moments. After gazing at her, a twisted smirk slowly spread across her lips. This human truly had no idea what Nympha was. It was exhilarating, to say the least. She could amaze and astound the human, but she didn't want to do that. She wanted to frighten her. Send her screaming out of the hospital. However, that seemed quite impossible at the moment. The human was hellbent on standing her ground. That was fine. She could stand there while Nympha went after her friends.
The vampire stepped back from the window now and turned to the human. But only for a moment, as she turned back to the window. Nympha stood looking at the glass for a moment, blinking and staring as absent-mindedly as she had been looking at the human girl before. Then Nympha reached up and grasped onto the window pane. She planted her fingers firmly against the wood and crouched her body against the wall. And with a tremble of her force, she pulled the window out of the wall and slung it onto the ground behind her. With the utmost gentility, she stepped through the hole in the wall, and, before jumping down, peered devilishly back at the human. Nympha then descended to the ground, and began to make her way toward the human's friends. She skulked silently along the grass, her eyes set firmly on their tender necks. There was suddenly no girl in the hospital. Nympha had completely void her mind of the human who had refused to stand down. She was useless to Nympha. what they could do |

the two boys were brothers, and everyone knew it. their curly manes of hair were distinctive and identical, although their eyes- oh their eyes. one bore an intense dark blue, while the other had eyes as green as summertime leaves. they were the troublemakers, the pranksters. one day their wit would take them far, if they ever grew out of their boyish ways. and a tall brunette on the sidelines watched in silence, one eyebrow quirked. she was plain looking, she was average. but she was intelligent- a genius in her own mind. but nothing could come of any of them if they were dead. the intent in the young woman's eyes placed ice in sam's chest, and she scrambled after her, trying her best to ignore the fact that she had just ripped the window from the wall. she tore it out of place- the whole thing. it was insane. it was mad.
but crazy as it was, there was no way samw as going to let something happen to her intoxicated friends. they had no idea what was coming after them, and they were hardly able to defend themselves sober, let alone tipsy or outright drunk. she saw them pause, turning with wide eyes. their had glazed over, uncomprehending. sam raced after the redhead, and leaped. she jumped onto the back of the goddamned creature and wrapped her arms around it's neck. she used her feet to steady herself and disbalance the person beneath her, and her hands went all over the place in an attempt to both blind and confuse the young woman.

Faster and faster. Like a true predator, nothing gave her quite the same thrill as stalking her prey. They were so unwary, so unwitting of the situation they were in, and how it would come to end. And it was all because of that magic juice that they had. Now, Nympha certainly enjoyed her wine, but never had and would never have enough to affect her judgment. It was foolish. And these kids were a fine example of it.
The redhead licked her fangs, ran her tongue across and around the very tip of her incisors. They were incredibly sharp and pricked her tongue, but she paid no mind. There was nothing wrong the taste of her own blood, as it would soon be washed away by a typhoon of young blood.
Nympha readied herself to leap and to strike out at the blue-eyed, blond-haired boy, but, instead, was stuck down herself. The vampire fell to the ground under the weight of her assailant. But it didn't take long for Nympha to recover her strength. She could rightly see the hands that was gripping at her, and focused intently on one. She opened her mouth wide and clamped down onto one of the girl's hands. She shut her jaw like a bear trap, refusing to let go. She shook her head like a rabid dog, attempting to drain any blood that she could get from this girl. Then she pushed the human away from her, stumbling a bit as she released her fangs just before she shoved her away. Nympha wiped her blood-stained mouth dauntingly; all the while, glaring at the girl, an inferno raging in her eyes.
The vampire scrunched up her nose and curled her lip, exposing her bloodied fangs, and emitting a loud, echoing hiss. Then, without hesitation, she turned to the girl's friends, and, tired of fooling around, blinked over to the blue-eyed male. Taking him by surprise, she held her fangs conspicuously close to his neck. Her eyes darted over toward the girl who had dared to attack her. She waited for her to come, while in the meantime holding her friend hostage. Nympha's nails burrowed into the boy's shoulder and collar bone, making sure that he wouldn't escape, and her mouth hovered cautiously over the flesh of his neck. Her fangs gravitated toward the blood coursing rapidly through his throat. She could hear it, pumping like a river, but she had to wait. She wanted the girl to see her friend have his blood drained. What was more fun than an onlooker? Besides, it was her own stupid fault for defying a vampire. If she had left Nympha well enough alone, she would have been content to wisp back into her shadows and spend the rest of the night by herself. But the human had to be stubborn and mule-headed, so Nympha was forced to be violent and cynical. A volatile combination. But wouldn't it be nice to know that her friend had died by her own damned arrogance and foolish fearlessness. It would hang on her conscience for many seasons (or so Nympha hoped). That was just the price you paid for interrupting a vampire's tromp. what they could do |

sam screamed, her voice echoing in the late night air when the crazy bitch clamped down on her arm, teeth sinking in. it all happened too fast, and the redhead was not sure what the creature had done, but the next thing she knew, she was staring up at the stars with wide green eyes. pain pounded in her arm, explosive and like burning fire. moaning, she rolled onto her good side, using the uninjured arm to push herself into a sitting position. one look at her wound told her that something was wrong. there was no way that woman could be human now- if sam had found an explanation for the tearing of the window from the brick wall. her arm was bloody and completely torn up, useless. ripping her gaze from the sight, she turned to see the crazy creature with her arms around todd, the blue-eyed twin. he looked terrified, the fear sobering him up fast. the others hasd scrambled back, terror in their wide eyes enough to make sam's blood boil.
somehow she got herself to her feet, and stood with rage crackling in her green eyes. "let him go." she growled, her lip curled and everything about her attempting to be threatening. she moved forward, knowing that she was nowhere near fast enough to outrun the creature- but maybe she was fast enough to distract her. she purposely tripped, collapsing to the ground and holding herself up with her good arm. her hair fell over her face, hiding her eyes and face and intentions. with her bad arm, she grabbed a stone. closing her eyes, she imagined herself as a child once more, throwing rocks with adrian. he was telling her about aim, showing her how to throw and hit her target everytime. his words still echoing in her head, she opened her eyes and sat up, reeling back and launching the rock forward, sending it straight for the redhead's face. of course, with the throw came consequences, and her arm screamed in time with her throat, and she coiled in on herself, holding the wound close to her chest and swaddling it to crush away the pain.
