I'M PART OF THE HUMANS AND I'M A JOURNALIST. ------------------------------------------------- I had never really actually been interested in writing as a child and the thought of just having to write my name frustrated me. This problem mostly occurred at school though since at home it was perfectly acceptable to always be doing something active and that was what I always preferred. My sister had always directed her energy toward dance and it always surprised me at how sure she seemed to want it even at a younger age. I had never been as certain as to what I wanted to be and spent many years drifting around activities but never really feeling like I fit into any of them. I tried to go out for sports like baseball or football but could never really get into the whole team spirit and yelling at the opposite teams thing. My mind would always be in the clouds and God knows that is not a good idea when you’re swinging a baseball bat. So sports were short lived and I only did them every so often when my parents thought I needed something to keep me going. I usually busied myself with my schoolwork or with acting and that seemed to get me through school pretty smoothly. It wasn’t until I was in college that I had realized that writing was actually something I enjoyed doing and it was something that I was actually pretty good at. It wasn’t until an English professor had approached me and asked me about it. I had never thought of it until then. And so I switched from having an undecided major to journalism. I had finally figured out what I wanted to do. After graduating I began to travel to any places that I could go. I wanted to learn about absolutely everything and always had a journal on me. During my travels I had decided to start up a blog to see if people would be interested in reading what I had to say. To say the least, it was a surprising success. It was also how I had managed to obtain a job through a magazine in New York. I was offered the job over a phone call after receiving an email from them. They were a magazine that focused on stories from all around the world and different cultures so they told me it may require travel. So obviously I took it in a heartbeat. So work is usually going pretty well for me and every so often I’ll do a bit of stray work here and there for local stories. Whenever I’m not writing for someone else I’m usually writing for my own benefit, trying to piece together my own master work so I can hopefully one day break through as a writer. I usually go to my sister and friends for some kind of inspiration. People who show drive and passion or always so inspirational for strong story characters, I think. I’ve realized that working on a book is very time consuming though and I have had a lot of difficult moments when I just want to toss an idea completely (and I have before). But with all of the different scribbles and saved documents on my laptop I’m sure I will come up with an intriguing story sooner or later. I’m completely determined to do so. |
